Paper Working Group
The Paper Working Group is a collaboration between 10 leading companies and Metafore to make environmentally preferable paper products more widely available and affordable.
Participants in the Paper Working Group include:
The Paper Working Group defines environmentally preferable paper in terms of the following inter-related desired outcomes:
- Efficient use and conservation of raw materials
- Minimization of waste
- Conservation of natural systems
- Clean production
- Community and human well-being
- Economic viability of environmentally preferable paper
- Credible reporting and verification
The Paper Working Group has used these desired outcomes to develop the initial version of a tool to evaluate the environmental performance of paper products. The Environmental Paper Assessment Tool® (EPAT) establishes consistent language and metrics for environmentally preferable paper and facilitates communication between the buyers and suppliers of paper products.
